ONE WONDERFUL MONDAY

This was my first venture into filmmaking, fresh out of film school as a writer/director and working with my friend and long-term collaborator, DOP Nicolas Booth.

Without a driver's license between us, and one friend helping out as a runner, we stole a trolley from ASDA to lug around the 16mm Arri camera & lenses, and off around Cardiff we went for a two-week ragtag, hurly-burly, instinctive filmmaking venture.

Following a loose storyboard and 14 reels of 400ft film later, 'One Wonderful Monday' was in the can. The name? A tribute to one of Akira Kurosawa's earliest films 'One Wonderful Sunday'.

The other films that influenced me were; 'Dead Man's Shoes' by Shane Meadows, for the use of narrative devices. 'The 400 Blows' by François Truffaut, for the ending and clear focus on one character. And Jean-Luc Godard's 'Breathless', because nearly the entire film had to be dubbed in post-production and I didn't have a full-time sound recordist.

Sadly, some years ago my house was broken into resulting in my hard drives & camera being stolen and thus, the film has since been re-scanned and is currently being recut... I can't wait to show you.
